Adrian Love
Between 1978 and 1995 I made regular trips to Germany where I did many shows for the BAOR The British Army of the Rhine. I sang in Folk Clubs, in Sergeant's Messes, I did Medieval Banquets and dozens of Drama Workshops for the children in the schools. I also made many trips to Hong Kong and to Brunei. Whenever I did these trips the British Forces Radio would be interested and I would go along to a studio and sing a few songs and have a chat to who ever was in charge a a particular show on that day. One day I turned up at the British Forces Radio in, I think it was Camden, before that it had been down on the Embankment along from the Houses of Parliament, here I was introduced by Nick Bailey to Adrian Love. I guess it was around 1982. I knew of Adrian because of his phone in shows fro Capital Radio in London. He was great at that, very sharp and fiery, able to deal with those who had off the point comments and encourage those who had something really useful to contribute. In later years he graduated to the BBC and took over the afternoon slot on Radio 2. He invited me to do a radio phone in at LBC in London, late on a Saturday night. Sadly no body thought it worth while phoning in to ask questions, however after the show we had a great many requests for the pamphlet I had made to cover the subject, Children's Parties. I will try and find one of them and put it here in a few days. On the side of that in about 1974 I helped on a record made by Danny La Rue and Adrian's father Geoff Love was the band leader of the band who accompanied Danny. It was all very exciting in Abbey Road Studio's in London, famous for the recordings made there by the Beatles. Both Danny and Geoff were very kind Sadly Adrian passed away in March 1999, following injuries he received in a car crash the previous year. |
